This collection compares ten plant Climate DNA profiles using the same occurrence filters, CHELSA variables, percentile method, and confidence gate. It is a data comparison, not a list of universal care targets. The common unit is the long-term outdoor climate attached to quality-filtered records inside each plant’s POWO native-country range.

The cohort rule is reproducible: the ten not-yet-covered popular houseplants from the implementation brief or existing care library that have an accepted GBIF species match, a POWO native distribution, and at least five retained native-country occurrence points across five quarter-degree cells; candidates below that evidence gate were excluded. Every profile keeps its own native occurrence count, geographic coverage, and confidence visible. No unrelated location is used as a substitute for species-specific evidence.

Every linked page includes p10, p25, median, p75, and p90 for seven native-record variables; an auto-zoomed occurrence-footprint visualization; raw and retained record counts; computed observations; confidence; methodology; and source versions. A limited spatial sample is not a negative care judgment. It remains visible so readers can distinguish strong geographic coverage from a narrow record footprint.

How to read the comparison

Start with the coldest-month median only as the cohort divider, then open a profile and read the full envelope. Two species can share a similar median while differing sharply in rainfall volume, precipitation seasonality, geographic spread, or sample confidence. The p10–p90 span shows broad variation; the p25–p75 band shows the central half of sampled values.

The annual-rain column also needs context. A high total does not reveal whether rainfall is even through the year or concentrated in a wet season, and outdoor rainfall is never a pot-watering schedule. The individual pages retain precipitation seasonality precisely so the total is not misread.

How evidence strength differs

Programmatic publishing should not turn incomplete data into false authority. Some species have broad, well-distributed GBIF coverage; others are represented by a narrower set after native-range, coordinate, establishment, record-type, duplication, and license filters. The individual pages preserve that difference through the native sample count, geographic-cell count, and confidence score.

Pages pass the publication gate only when their own retained sample and geographic-cell count meet the declared minimums and all seven CHELSA distributions and source links are present. No external benchmark can raise a weak plant sample over that gate.

Methodology and sources
  • Taxonomy is normalized through the GBIF Species API; native distributions come from Plants of the World Online.
  • GBIF occurrences are constrained to native countries and filtered for coordinate validity, uncertainty, record type, detectable cultivation or introduction, duplicates, and CC0/CC-BY licensing.
  • CHELSA-climatologies V2.1 (1981-2010) is sampled at retained coordinates.
  • The renderer uses deterministic p10, p25, median, p75, and p90 values. It does not invent measurements or convert outdoor climate into indoor setpoints.
  • Every profile stores the occurrence-record hash, ArticleFacts hash, source URLs, confidence, and generated date.

Use the profiles as evidence, not a schedule

The useful next step is to compare a species-level profile with the plant and room you actually have. Identify the accepted species, inspect light and root-zone moisture directly, and treat native-record climate as context for better questions—not as an instruction to recreate annual rainfall indoors.
